How to Certify and Legalize Documents for Israeli Companies?

There are two ways to certify and legalize documents for Israeli Companies, for the purpose either for formation, for liquidation, or for other legal procedures:

Way 1: Notary and Apostil

The first way to certify and legalize documents for Israel is by using a notary and Apostil.

This was is relevant in case the signee is located in a country which is a member of the "Apostil Convention". The Apostil Convention allows a common public notary to authenticate all documents, after which a trip to the nearby court may the document per the apostil convention.

But first lets talk about who is the Notary.

A notary is a private person who is licensed by the state to make trusted copies of documents, to make and authenticate trusted translations from language to language, or to authenticate the signatures of signees.

The document is then usually covered by a nice fancy-looking ribbon, and the notary stamp and signature.

Apostil

After the notary authentication, all notarized documents are required to undergo a certification per the apostil convention. This certification is usually done by the courts. The documents is brought to the court and then a special stamp is put on it. In the U.S the apostil is a separate paper which is stapled to the original documents.

Then the document is 100% ready to be exported to Israel for the company formation, liquidation or other process you wish to go through.

Way 2: Embassy

The second way to certify and legalize documents for Israel is by going to the Israeli Embassy in the country in which the signee is located.

This is the natural option for countries which are not part of the "Apostil Convention", e.g. China.

Just schedule an appointment at the Israeli embassy or consulate, bring the document and sign in front of the consular. The downside is that it takes time to wait for the appointment, and also it takes time and effort to travel to the embassy.

After the document is certified at the embassy, it is legalized and can be used in Israel for anything.
